Public Sector Supervising Economist

Job Description

Supervising Economist positions perform economic forecasting of the City’s budget including forecasting of City’s major revenues; perform econometric analyses; coordinate and participate in the development and implementation of the financial forecast for the City; plan and supervise the development of financial tools such as the multi-year financial model for forecasting City’s revenues and expenditures; supervise preparation of the City’s revenue projections with an ability to construct complex forecasting models; review and analyze fiscal-related state legislation for impact on the City’s revenues; prepare and review financial reports to the Mayor, City Council, and other departments and agencies; continually research and update knowledge of current economic conditions, trends, and financial, legislative and policy issues; determine appropriate data requirements and techniques to identify and measure economic and financial variables; and perform other duties as assigned.

You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Business, Finance or a closely related field.
NOTE:
·         Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education lacked on a year-for-year basis.  One year of full-time experience = 30 semester/45 quarter college level units.
EXPERIENCE: Four years of full-time professional experience developing, applying, and implementing economic or financial analysis techniques, including econometric, statistical and/or financial modeling; performing economic forecasting of public or private sector budgets, including short and long range revenue projections.
NOTE:
·         A Master’s Degree in Economics, Business or Finance may be substituted for a maximum of ONE year of the required experience.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
·         Experience leading or supervising economists or financial analysts in the development, application, and implementation of economic or financial analysis techniques, financial forecasting, economic or financial trending, or complex analysis related to the financing of public or private sector capital projects.
