Job Description
The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture’s chief scientific research agency and one of the world’s premiere scientific organizations. ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist’s research on agricultural problems of high national priority affecting American agriculture.
Major Duties:
Incumbent serves on a team to assist in the development of a USDA life cycle inventory database and associated information management systems to support sustainability initiatives. Provides system development support, leading the effort to gather, interpret and prepare data and help to establish and maintain partnerships with experts in the field. Finds ways to incorporate GIS, social and economic factors within the life cycle assessment framework. Meets regularly with other team members keeping them apprised of new findings and developments
This position requires a recent Ph.D in (in the last 4 years) in economics, ecology or engineering or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Knowledge and experience with life cycle assessment theory and application is required. A strong background in statistics is highly desirable. Related knowledge of value include: GIS; linear algebra; operations research; agricultural practices; engineering principles; and industrial and/or environmental processes.
Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard’s requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
