Job Description
| RTI International’s Environmental, Technology and Energy Program, housed within the Global Climate Change and Environmental Sciences Unit, is currently accepting applications for a PhD-level technology economist. Working under the direction of the Program Director and working with other senior staff in the Program, the candidate will provide expertise in the economics of technological change, innovation policy analysis, R&D program evaluation, and economic development. Working within an interdisciplinary team, the candidate will bring strong analytical skills, an astute grasp of current economic theory in technology infrastructure and innovation, and modeling expertise to complement existing expertise within our Program and Unit. | Responsibilities | ||
| • Manage retrospective benefit-cost analyses of new technologies, technology infrastructure enhancements, and regional innovation policies. • Develop conceptual frameworks for analyzing technological change, devise and program economic impact models in the absence of readily available structured datasets, and lead primary data collection activities to populate models. • Contribute to development of grant, cooperative agreement and contract proposals. • Contribute to development of manuscripts for refereed journals. • Present research findings at scientific conferences. • Monitor study resources and budgets. • Serve as a mentor to junior researchers. |

| Qualifications | ||
| • Ph.D. in economics, with specialization in applied microeconomics, technological change, industrial organization, or development with one year relevant experience • Prior contract and consulting experience •Familiarity with public sector R&D evaluations, public sector finance, and innovation policy. • Strong analytical and time management skills |
